Planning a hog roast in Seaview

Seaview is about 2 miles east of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. We cater events of every size in Seaview. We bring hog roasts to all 125 towns and villages across the Isle of Wight. We cater events right across the region, from Seaview to Southampton (18 miles away).

If you are gathering after a service at a church like St. Peter's Church, a nearby hall or garden suits a hog roast. Within reach of Seaview are historic houses such as Nunwell House (3.3 miles south-west) and Morton Manor (3.6 miles south-west). Historic venues often limit cooking on site, so ask early if you are booking one. Seaview is within about 3 miles of the sea, and sea breezes can be strong. We think about wind when choosing the cooking spot and putting up the cover.

Anywhere in PO34, we can bring the roaster to you, from busy streets to quiet lanes. Local streets include High Street, Madeira Road and Church Street; an event on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. Nearby, we also cater events in Nettlestone (1 mile south), Spring Vale (1 mile north-west), Pondwell (1 mile west), Puckpool (1 mile west) and Appley (2 miles west). We also serve nearby towns such as Newport (8 miles west), Cowes (9 miles west), Sandown (5 miles south-west), Shanklin (7 miles south-west), Ventnor (10 miles south-west) and East Cowes (8 miles west). If your event is somewhere remote, let us know early and we’ll plan the trip.

Well-known places in the area include Southsea Castle (4.1 miles north) and Gosport War Memorial Hospital (5.3 miles north). Within reach you will find Brading Down and Alan Hersey Nature Reserve.

  • Nearby, you’ll find The Boat House (0.8 miles north-west)

Working with your venue

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Where the roaster can go in Seaview

The right spot for the roaster makes everything easier. Ideally:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • Parking near the spot

Seaview is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

FAQs for Seaview

Which station is closest to Seaview?

The closest is Smallbrook Junction station, roughly 2 miles away.

Do you come out to small places like Seaview?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What meats can we have?

It’s built around the hog, with lamb and chicken as extras.

What should we sort out beforehand?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

How does hog roast hire work?

We bring the roaster, roast the hog on site for hours, then our chef carves it and our staff serve, in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

What if it rains?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Will there be enough to go round?

We size the roast to your numbers, so a good estimate matters. The quote sets it out.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with food vans, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast, with no waiting for individual orders to cook. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why Seaview hosts choose us

  • An itemised quote
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

The process

Carving is part of the show: the hog is carved in front of your guests, with crackling for everyone who wants it. Around midsummer it stays light in Seaview until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We clear up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Give us a contact number for the day

What affects the price in Seaview

The biggest factors are:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • Numbers
  • Site access
  • Season and day of the week

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What to tell us

For a quick, accurate price, send us:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • The address or postcode
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Your date and serving time

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Send us your date for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly

If timings shift, tell us: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

The menu, dish by dish
