Hog roast hire for Sharpthorne

Hog roast hire in Sharpthorne, slow-roasted on site

There is nothing quite like the smell of a hog roast drifting across a garden or field. We cook at your venue in Sharpthorne, low and slow, then carve the pork into rolls with all the trimmings. Popular choices include rotisserie chicken, coleslaw and spit-roast lamb, and typical bookings are for weddings, day or evening and gatherings after a funeral.

Somewhere like Sharpthorne, a yard or firm field often works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

A closer look at the menu

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Vegan guests can have a vegan burger or sausage, so nobody misses out.

Should I cook it myself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

The process

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. It’s worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Around midsummer it stays light in Sharpthorne until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Think about shelter for your guests

How we price a hog roast

We work out each quote from:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Crockery choices
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Site access

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Roughly how many people
  • The date and time of the event
  • Your menu choices

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we will quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Send us your details through our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Some ideas:

  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information

We’ll agree a contact for the day, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal.

For planners, venues and organisers

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Your questions about a hog roast in Sharpthorne

Do you cater at venues in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Sharpthorne too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What if it rains?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain isn’t a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Is crockery included?

Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

We offer full catering and DIY machine hire. Your quote will set out what’s included.

Is all of West Sussex covered?

West Sussex is part of our area, including Sharpthorne. Ask for a quote.

Do we need our own staff?

No need for your own staff: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Space, access and the venue

Planning the cooking spot is the key. A quick checklist:

  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.
