Hog roast hire in The Brents, carved to order

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it is served. Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options can go alongside. On the menu are crackling, hog roast rolls and new potatoes, and we are often booked for weddings, day or evening and corporate events.

For a place the size of The Brents, your own garden is often the best venue: plenty of room, no hire fees and nobody stuck in the kitchen. Tell us about access down the drive or side of the house. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

How it works

On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in The Brents, sunset is around 8:45pm in late May and 9:15pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:50pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

For planners, venues and organisers

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

How we price a hog roast

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Numbers
  • The journey to the venue
  • The serving time and how long we are on site

The main driver is numbers: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Details that help

To check the date and the space, we will need:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The date and time of the event
  • The venue or postcode

Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, then confirm closer to the date. Fill in our quote form.

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations

Everything for serving comes with us, so you only need to provide the space.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes make it a full meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

The Brents: your questions answered

Could you cook in Oare Meadow?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Check with them first.

What’s the nearest station to The Brents?

Faversham station, about 0.6 miles south of the centre.

What is hog roast hire?

We handle the roasting, carving and serving. Just give us an outdoor spot to cook.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

Do you serve the food?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

Is crackling included?

Of course: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

A hog roast or other catering?

A hog roast has one downside: it’s pork. So we offer lamb, chicken and vegetarian and vegan choices too for anyone who does not eat it. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

What you get with us

  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • A clear quote with everything listed

Take a look at our prices page and what a hog roast costs.

Should I cook it myself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is normally easier.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
