Hog roast hire in Woodley, carved to order

With hog roast hire, the cooking happens at your event, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it’s served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. We serve salads, hog roast rolls and halloumi skewers, and we are frequently booked for Fêtes, fairs and shows and staff days and open days.

A town like Woodley gives you plenty of options: your own garden, a club, a hall or a pub garden. We will check the cooking spot with you before the day. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp.

Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Let us know if the day runs late: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

Prices and what affects them

We don’t use a fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • Distance from us
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Site access
  • Plates or china

Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Rough numbers
  • Any venue rules

Send us the date, the address or RG5 postcode and rough numbers, plus when you’d like to eat. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.

About the food

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, and handy for anyone who does not eat pork.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with a cold buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Why book our hog roast in Woodley

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Planned to your running order
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • No surprises: everything in writing

Read our prices page and what a hog roast costs.

Should I cook it myself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep you both updated.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Woodley: your questions answered

Can you do a hog roast in Ali's Pond Local Nature Reserve?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Can you cater after a service at United Reformed Church?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

Is there a non-pork option?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We don’t provide halal meat.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Do you need power or water?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.

Is hog roast hire catered or DIY?

Either: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Catering is the most popular choice.

Do you provide china?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

How the day works

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Around midsummer it stays light in Woodley until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is typically in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

How to prepare
