What a hog roast costs

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many people are eating
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Whether you want china
  • Access to the cooking area

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

About our hog roast hire in Yelsted

There’s nothing quite like the smell of a hog roast drifting across a garden or field. We cook at your venue in Yelsted, low and slow, then serve it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. On the menu are crackling, spit-roast lamb and rotisserie chicken, and typical bookings are for festive gatherings and wedding breakfasts and evening food.

Somewhere as small as Yelsted, a field, yard or garden is often the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives, and firm, level ground matters most. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Your questions about a hog roast in Yelsted

Could you cook in Stockbury Hill Wood?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Which station is closest to Yelsted?

Rainham (Kent) station, about 2.5 miles north of the centre.

Do you cover the whole of Kent?

Kent is part of our area, including Yelsted. Get in touch for a price.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

How do you work out quantities?

We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is generally fine if the venue is happy.

What should we sort out beforehand?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Should I cook it myself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

How the day works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. Evenings in Yelsted stay light until about 9:15pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:00pm; after dark, the serving area and the path to it need good lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We clear up and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

Planning help

Planning for dietary needs

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Find out who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

Planners, venues and businesses

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

If you’re booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.
