Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Collect dietary needs when guests reply
  • Think about children’s portions
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans

At food time, we carve and serve, then clear up the serving area.

Sides turn rolls into a proper party meal.

Climping parties: what to know

Climping is about 2 miles west of Littlehampton, in West Sussex. Climping and the surrounding area are covered for parties. Climping is one of 371 towns and villages in West Sussex where we cater. Our bookings stretch from Climping to Brighton (19 miles away).

Guests arriving by train should know that Littlehampton station is about 1.2 miles away. Nearby historic houses include Ecclesden Manor (4.7 miles east). If you’re hiring a historic venue for a big birthday, check its rules on outside caterers first. Climping is within about 7 miles of the South Downs National Park, so many gardens around here have a great outlook. The coast is within about 2 miles, so breezy days are common, and we always plan for it.

We cover parties in every part of BN17. We can cater a party on streets such as Church Lane, Horsemere Green Lane and Crookthorn Lane or the roads around them, wherever there’s an outdoor spot for the roaster. We also bring hog roasts to parties in Horsemere Green (1 mile west), Atherington (1 mile south), Ford (1 mile north), Wick (1 mile north-east) and Tortington (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Worthing (8 miles east), Bognor Regis (5 miles west), Chichester (9 miles west), Selsey (11 miles south-west), Shoreham-by-Sea (13 miles east) and Lancing (11 miles east).

Well-known places in the area include Arundel and District Hospital (3 miles north) and Rustington Museum (3 miles east). Green spaces nearby include WWT Arundel.

  • Nearby schools include The Littlehampton Academy (1.8 miles east)
  • Nearby, you will find The Black Horse Public House (0.7 miles south)

How to compare hog roast caterers

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Flat ground in the garden or on the drive
  • Somewhere dry for guests to eat
  • Space away from the house, fences, sheds and trees

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

From the roaster

  • Crackling
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Salads
  • Coleslaw
  • Jacket potatoes
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Hog roast rolls

Working with your venue

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

Full catering or machine hire?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to doing it all yourself, a catered hog roast gives you the day back. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Why Climping hosts choose us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • An itemised quote
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

See our pricing or the cost guide.

Climping questions

We are gathering after a service at The Parish Church of St Mary: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

What do you need from us on the day?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We’ll bring the rest.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

Can we cook it ourselves?

Yes, DIY machine hire is available. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works.

When should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

The process

We arrive hours before you want to eat, since slow roasting cannot be rushed. The smell typically brings people over long before we carve. A summer party in Climping stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Show us the garden or drive.
  2. We confirm it works and send a quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. Our staff serve rolls and sides.
  5. We leave the garden tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day

How to get a price

Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Send us your details through our quote form.
