How our party hog roast works in Combe

Street parties and neighbourhood get-togethers suit a hog roast too, once the road closure or permission is in place. Typical bookings include back-garden get-togethers and engagement parties, serving apple sauce, rotisserie chicken and a vegan burger or sausage.

Country parties near Combe suit a hog roast: slow-roasted and eaten outside. Plan shelter in case it rains. Our staff serve and clear, so you are not left handing out rolls.

Hosting a hog roast party in Combe

Combe is about 5 miles north-east of Witney, in Oxfordshire. Hosts in Combe book us for parties of all sizes. We cater all 443 towns and villages across Oxfordshire, from the larger towns to small villages. Our nearest city page is Oxford, about 10 miles away.

Christenings and naming days often start at a local church such as St Laurence's Church, with a hog roast at home or in a hall afterwards. Among the historic houses close to Combe are Blenheim Palace (1.9 miles east). For most parties, a garden or hall is easier than a historic venue with strict catering rules.

We bring hog roasts to parties all over OX29. From Square Firs, Chatterpie Lane and Orchard Close or anywhere nearby, we can set up and roast there. Neighbouring places where we cater parties include East End (1 mile south-west), Stonesfield (1 mile north-west), Freeland (2 miles south), North Leigh (2 miles south-west) and Fawler (3 miles west). Larger places within reach include Oxford (10 miles south-east), Banbury (15 miles north), Bicester (11 miles east), Abingdon-on-Thames (13 miles south-east), Witney (5 miles south-west) and Carterton (10 miles south-west).

Well-known places in the area include Morris Motors Museum (1.8 miles south-east). The countryside around Combe includes Blenheim Farm.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Tips:

  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Ask about allergies on the invitation
  • Let us know roughly how many children

We set up in the agreed spot, leaving the garden to you and your guests.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

Should I cook it myself?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Space, access and the venue

It is worth planning the cooking area in advance. The ideal spot has:

  • A heads-up for next door
  • A spot well away from the house
  • A gazebo, marquee or room indoors for guests if it rains

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Combe questions

Is Combe too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What’s the nearest station to Combe?

The closest is Combe station, roughly 0.8 miles away.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Do you bring a gazebo?

We bring cover for the roaster; plan shelter for guests in bad weather.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

Do you leave the area tidy?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Do you provide china?

Plates come as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we will add it to the quote.

What do you need from us on the day?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We will bring the rest.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Instead of booking a restaurant, you keep the party at home, with room for everyone. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why book our hog roast in Combe

  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Planned to your running order
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Take a look at our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.

The process

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. Autumn parties in Combe get dark early: about 7:10pm by late September and 3:55pm by December. Light the garden path and the serving area.

  1. Start with the date, the address and roughly how many.
  2. We check the garden or drive and quote.
  3. We arrive early and get the roast going.
  4. At food time, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. We tidy up and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, in a roll, with salad on the side.

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
