Party hog roast in Forest Hill

Forest Hill questions

What if our house in Forest Hill has no side access?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard typically works. Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

Can you do a hog roast in Peckham Rye?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

What about kids?

Generally, yes, so we can plan quantities.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

What’s the price?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your party for a quote.

Do you provide china?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Can we cook it ourselves?

Yes, for confident cooks. Catering is the easier option.

About our party hog roast in Forest Hill

For a relaxed party, you can hire the machine and cook it yourself. Most hosts prefer us to do it, so they can enjoy the party. We’re often asked to cater getting-engaged parties and summer parties in the garden, serving a vegan burger or sausage, apple sauce and hog roast rolls.

Most parties in Forest Hill are at home, and in London that means getting the roaster into the garden. With no side passage, a rear gate or front garden may work. Send us a picture. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

Planning a party in Forest Hill

Forest Hill is about 2 miles south-east of East Dulwich, in Greater London. Forest Hill is well within our area for parties. We bring hog roasts to 764 places in Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages.

Thinking of a hog roast in Peckham Rye? Cooking in a park needs the owner’s permission, normally the council’s, and many parks don’t allow it. If the day starts at Honor Oak Christian Fellowship Centre, the roast can be ready when everyone gets back.

This part of Greater London takes in SE23, SE22 and SE26, and we can cater your party anywhere in it. Nearby, we also cater parties in Honor Oak (1 mile north), Perry Vale (1 mile south-east), Brockley (1 mile north-east), Crofton Park (1 mile north-east) and Dulwich (1 mile west). We also serve nearby towns such as London (4 miles north-west), City of Westminster (6 miles north-west), Marylebone (6 miles north-west), Kensington (7 miles north-west), St Pancras (6 miles north-west) and Shoreditch (6 miles north).

Space, access and the venue

Most outdoor spaces can work if a few things are right. Here’s what helps:

  • A side gate or passage wide enough to wheel the equipment
  • A heads-up for next door
  • Somewhere dry for guests to eat

As a London location, Forest Hill is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Planners, venues and businesses

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Ask about allergies on the invitation
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Let us know roughly how many children

Have a word with the neighbours first: roasting takes hours and the smell travels, and they may ask for a roll.

China crockery is available on request, at extra cost.

How we price a hog roast for your party

Your quote depends on:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Numbers
  • Whether you want china
  • Which meats and sides you choose

The main driver is numbers: the price per head typically falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

DIY or catered? DIY suits confident cooks and relaxed parties; catering suits bigger or more important parties. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

Why us?

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Timed around your day
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

The process

We roast under cover, so a shower will not spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Sunset in Forest Hill is about 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 3:55pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. You tell us the date, your address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the cooking spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
  4. When it’s time to eat, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. We clear up and pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot

Should I cook it myself?

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
