About our party hog roast in Gravesend

A big birthday deserves a centrepiece, and a hog roast in the garden fits the bill. The smell sets the mood. For ruby, golden and diamond anniversaries and engagement celebrations, we’ll put together a menu of coleslaw, apple sauce and a vegan burger or sausage.

Garden parties are a favourite in Gravesend, and a hall or club works if the garden is small. All we need is a level spot with clearance. You’ll know what’s included before you book: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

Parties in Gravesend: homes, halls and local tips

Gravesend is about 9 miles north-west of Gillingham, in Kent. Gravesend and the surrounding area are covered for parties. We bring hog roasts to all 922 towns and villages in Kent. We cater events right across the region, from Gravesend to London (about 21 miles away).

A green space like Northfleet Urban Country Park is tempting, but a gas-fired roaster there needs the landowner’s say-so, normally the council’s. Historic houses near Gravesend include Cobham College (2.9 miles south). If you’re hiring a historic venue for a big birthday, check its rules on outside caterers first.

We cater parties across DA12 and DA11. Local streets include Christ Church Road, Hillside Drive and Laurel Avenue; a party on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. Main roads around Gravesend include the A2 and A226, so getting the roaster to your party is simple. For parties just outside Gravesend, we cover Windmill Hill (1 mile north-west), Milton-next-Gravesend (1 mile north-east), Denton (1 mile east), Singlewell or Ifield (1 mile south) and Northfleet (1 mile west). Further out, we also cater in Maidstone (13 miles south-east), Dartford (7 miles west), Sevenoaks (13 miles south-west), Swanley (9 miles west), Kings Hill (11 miles south) and Foley Park (12 miles south-east).

A little further out are Gravesham Museum (0.9 miles north-west) and Stone Castle (4.5 miles west). Green spaces nearby include Sawyers Lake and Gad's Hill.

  • Schools near Gravesend include St John's Catholic Comprehensive (less than half a mile north-east) and St John's Catholic Comprehensive (less than half a mile north-east)
  • Nearby, you will find The Waterloo Public House (0.6 miles north-west)

Gravesend: your questions answered

Could you cook in Northfleet Urban Country Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

We’re gathering after a service at Christ Church Milton: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Do you bring plates and clear up?

We tidy the serving area.

Is a hog roast good for a children’s party?

Yes, and tell us how many children are coming, so we can plan quantities.

Will a hog roast fit in our garden?

Most gardens can work, given access for the equipment. A picture helps.

What do you need from us on the day?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We’ll bring the rest.

Where does the hog roast go?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will check it with you before booking.

Planners, venues and businesses

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with cooking for everyone yourself, you get to enjoy the party. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Why book with us

  • An itemised quote
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling

What happens on the day

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. At midsummer, it is light in Gravesend until about 9:20pm, which gives a garden party a long evening. By late September sunset is around 7:00pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. Show us the garden or drive.
  2. We confirm it works and send a quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. We serve when you’re ready.
  5. We leave the garden tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

Planning help

Looking after everyone

Some guests won’t eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Add a dietary question to the invite

On the day, we arrive hours before the party starts, so the smell is the first thing guests notice.

Add chicken for younger or fussier guests.

Perfect for your party in Gravesend

Children generally love it, with chicken as a backup.

We’re regularly asked to cater all sorts of events around Gravesend, such as:

Catered or do it yourself?

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.
