How our party hog roast works in Great Hollands

A party hog roast turns a garden party into an occasion. We roast on site in Great Hollands, then carve at the time you choose, so you are not stuck in the kitchen. For street parties and retirement parties, we can cook a vegan burger or sausage, crackling and hog roast rolls and more.

Parties around Great Hollands are often relaxed garden affairs. It suits that kind of party. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a buffet, hot carved pork feels more special, and nothing sits out all afternoon. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Why Great Hollands hosts choose us

  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests

DIY versus a catered hog roast

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Everything goes into a soft roll, perfect for eating on the move. Ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: grilled halloumi with vegetables.

How it works

We roast under cover, so a shower will not spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. At midsummer, it’s light in Great Hollands until about 9:25pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. By late September sunset is around 7:05pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. You tell us the date, your address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the garden or drive, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive in good time and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve at the agreed time.
  5. We pack away and leave the garden tidy.

Questions from Great Hollands

Can you cater after a service at St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

How far is Great Hollands from London?

Roughly 30 miles from the centre of London.

Do you bring a gazebo?

The roaster has its own cover; guests will want somewhere dry to eat if it rains.

What happens after service?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Who serves?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Is a hog roast good for a children’s party?

Plain pork rolls go down well with children, with chicken as an alternative.

Can we just hire the roaster?

DIY machine hire is available. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

What about the neighbours?

Let them know in advance, especially if the roaster is near a fence.

  • Halal is not offered, so arrange it separately if needed
  • Find out who does not eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Think about children’s portions

Clear the route to the garden before we arrive, so we can wheel the equipment in.

A string of lights by the carving station looks great as it gets dark.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
