Party hog roast in Keynor Estate

Party hog roast in Keynor Estate, slow-roasted on site

A hog roast works for street parties as well, once the road closure or permission is in place. We are often asked to cater reunions and summer parties in the garden, serving jacket potatoes, hog roast rolls and coleslaw.

Country parties near Keynor Estate suit a hog roast: roasted all afternoon and carved on the lawn. Plan shelter in case it rains. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

Your questions about a hog roast for your party in Keynor Estate

Which station is closest to Keynor Estate?

Chichester station, about 4.4 miles north of the centre.

We’re gathering after a service at St Mary Our Lady Sidlesham: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Where does the hog roast go?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a photo if you are unsure.

Is a hog roast good for a children’s party?

Generally, yes, so we get the amounts right.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

Hours rather than minutes. You’ll know our arrival time in advance.

Can you do a hog roast in our back garden?

Most gardens can work, given access for the equipment. Send us a photo.

What if things run late?

We will be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Next to a barbecue, no one gets stuck at the grill, and everyone eats together. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why us?

  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • A clear quote with everything listed

Working with your venue

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will confirm what we can provide.

If you are a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

Planning the cooking spot

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. The ideal spot has:

  • Space for our vehicle near the drive
  • A side gate or passage wide enough to wheel the equipment
  • Space away from the house, fences, sheds and trees

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Full catering or machine hire?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Looking after everyone

Rolls and stuffing normally contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Count non-pork eaters so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Ask about allergies on the invitation
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food

Clear the route to the garden before we arrive, so we can wheel the equipment in.

Sides turn rolls into a proper party meal.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes to make it a proper meal.

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who do not eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children generally like it too.

How the day works

We work to your timings. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so keep us posted on the day. A summer party in Keynor Estate stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Send us your party date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the cooking spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
  4. When it is time to eat, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. We clear up and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
