  • A wet-weather plan for guests
  • Space away from the house, fences, sheds and trees
  • A level spot in the garden, on the patio or drive

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Planning for dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect

Clear the route to the garden before we arrive, so we can wheel the equipment in.

A string of lights by the carving station looks great as it gets dark.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. A summer party in Newchapel stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Start with the date, the address and roughly how many.
  2. We check the space and send a price.
  3. We arrive early and get the roast going.
  4. We carve and serve at food time.
  5. We clear the serving area and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Think about shelter for your guests

Common questions in Newchapel

Is Newchapel too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

How far is Newchapel from London?

About 23 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Is our garden suitable?

Often, yes, if there is a level spot away from the house and trees, given access for the equipment. Send us a photo.

Do we need cover?

Not for the cooking, but plan somewhere dry for guests.

Do you serve the food?

You don’t need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Can you cater in Newchapel?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Newchapel and Surrey. Tell us the venue and we will quote.

Should we warn the neighbours?

A friendly word helps: the roast cooks for hours and the smell travels. They may want a roll.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with cooking for everyone yourself, you get to enjoy the party. Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote. Tell us the exact address for an accurate figure.
