Party hog roast for Parkgate

How our party hog roast works in Parkgate

A big birthday deserves a centrepiece, and a whole hog roasting in the garden is exactly that. The smell sets the mood. We’re often asked to cater retirement celebrations and naming ceremonies, serving hog roast rolls, rotisserie chicken and coleslaw.

In a small place like Parkgate, a party in the garden or a nearby field is frequently the plan. Tell us about lanes and ground, and we will plan the route. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates.

Prices and what affects them

The biggest factors are:

  • Distance from us
  • Access to the cooking area
  • The date and time of year
  • How many people are eating

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

What to tell us

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Where the event is
  • Allergies we should know about

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Send us your date for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Why choose a hog roast in Parkgate?

Next to a party buffet, a hog roast is hot and freshly carved, and nothing sits out all afternoon. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

What you get with us

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork

Planning a party in Parkgate

Parkgate is about 4 miles south-east of Dorking, in Surrey. We cover Parkgate and its neighbours for parties. We bring hog roasts to all 395 towns and villages across Surrey, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Guildford, about 14 miles away.

If guests are coming by rail, the nearest station is Holmwood station, about 2.1 miles west. The Surrey Hills National Landscape is within about 5 miles of Parkgate, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop.

For parties in RH5, we just need to know where the roaster can cook. From Broad Lane, Mill Lane and Becket Wood or a nearby road, we can set up and roast there. Parkgate: your questions answered

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.

Is Parkgate too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What’s included?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

How much will it be?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Send us the details and we’ll quote.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

How soon do you get booked up?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we’ll check.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

The menu, dish by dish

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, which keeps it hot and moist.

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing turn a pork roll into a hog roast roll, just as they should.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Autumn parties in Parkgate get dark early: about 7:05pm by late September and 3:55pm by December. Plan lights for the path and the food.

  1. Send a picture of where the roaster could go.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. Our staff serve rolls and sides.
  5. We clear up so you don’t have to.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival

Catered or do it yourself?

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Before you choose a spot

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. A quick checklist:

  • Parking close to the house
  • A step-free way into the garden
  • A word with the neighbours

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

  • Salads
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

Planners, venues and businesses

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:

  • Think about children’s portions
  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Find out who does not eat pork for the alternatives
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

If the party runs late, the roast can wait a little, so tell us if timings change.

Rotisserie chicken is popular at family parties.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
