Party hog roast in Plummers Plain, carved to order

Milestone birthdays call for something special, and a whole hog roasting in the garden is exactly that. The smell sets the mood. We are often asked to cater family reunions and engagement parties, with a vegan burger or sausage, hog roast rolls and apple sauce.

In a small place like Plummers Plain, a party in the garden or a nearby field is often the plan. Let us know about access, and we’ll handle the rest. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

What a hog roast costs

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Site access
  • The date and time of year
  • Time on site
  • Crockery choices

For larger numbers, a hog roast is typically good value, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • The date and time of the event
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.

Organising for someone else?

If the event is on someone else’s land, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it’s worth asking first. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a party buffet, hot carved pork feels more special, and nothing sits out all afternoon. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why us?

What we serve, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Soft rolls hold the pork, stuffing and apple sauce together, easy to eat standing up. Ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Rolls and stuffing normally contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • Count non-pork eaters for the alternatives
  • Let us know roughly how many children
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing generally contains gluten

Our chef carves and our staff serve at the agreed time, then tidy up.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

The process

The roaster is gas-fired, so cooking does not depend on mains power, though a socket nearby is handy for lighting. Autumn parties in Plummers Plain get dark early: about 7:05pm by late September and 3:55pm by December. Light the garden path and the serving area.

  1. You tell us the date, your address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the garden or drive, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve when you are ready.
  5. Afterwards we tidy up the serving area.

Preparing for the day

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
