Party hog roast for Segensworth

Party hog roast in Segensworth, carved to order

Throwing a party is hard work. A hog roast takes the food off your list: we cook, carve and serve. We serve a vegan burger or sausage, coleslaw and rotisserie chicken, and we are regularly asked to cater garden parties and neighbourhood parties.

A country party near Segensworth is perfect for a hog roast: slow-roasted and eaten outside. Plan shelter in case it rains. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

FAQs for Segensworth

Do you come out to small places like Segensworth?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you cater after a service at St John?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Can we hire the hog roast machine for our party?

You can hire the machine. We will talk you through it when we quote.

Is mains power needed?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.

What do people get?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll check it with you before booking.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

How it works

Slow roasting is the whole point: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. In Segensworth, late May sunsets come at about 8:55pm and midsummer ones at about 9:20pm, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 4:00pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. Send a picture of where the roaster could go.
  2. We confirm it works and send a quote.
  3. On the day, we roast slowly under cover.
  4. We serve when you are ready.
  5. We clear up so you do not have to.

Preparing for the day

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Add a dietary question to the invite
  • Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Count non-pork eaters for the alternatives

We get there early to start the roast, so the smell is the first thing guests notice.

Add chicken for younger or fussier guests.

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.
