Roast pork

Our chef carves the pork as it’s needed, which keeps it hot and moist.

Good crackling needs time and heat, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Compared with a buffet, hot carved pork feels more special. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Prices and what affects them

Yes, Tisman's Common is in our area. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will confirm availability.

What comes with the hog roast?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. We’ll explain the details with your quote.

What about kids?

Most children like pork in a soft roll, with chicken as an alternative.

Rain does not stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Do you bring plates and clear up?

We tidy the serving area.

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Ask about allergies on the invitation
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans
  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Let us know roughly how many children

Ensure the gate or side passage is open when we arrive, so we can wheel the equipment in.

Rotisserie chicken is popular at family parties.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Working with your venue

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team.

The process

Carving is part of the show: our chef carves the pork in front of the queue, and the crackling is shared out so everyone gets some. In Tisman's Common, late May sunsets come at about 8:50pm and midsummer ones at about 9:20pm, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 3:55pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. Start with the date, the address and roughly how many.
  2. We check the space and send a price.
  3. We set up hours ahead.
  4. We carve and serve at food time.
  5. We clear the serving area and go.

Before we arrive

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
