Party hog roast for Wallend

How our party hog roast works in Wallend

If you’d rather cook yourself, DIY machine hire is an option. Most people choose the catered option, and spend time with their guests. We’re frequently asked to cater getting-engaged parties and ruby, golden and diamond anniversaries, with jacket potatoes, rotisserie chicken and crackling.

Near Wallend, parties are often in gardens or fields. Let us know about access, and we’ll plan the route. The hog is roasted on site at your party, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you are ready to eat.

Working with your venue

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

For venues and planners, we are happy to work alongside your team.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some guests will not eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing typically contains gluten

Warn the neighbours: the roast cooks for hours, and they may ask for a roll.

Add chicken for younger or fussier guests.

Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • A spot well away from the house
  • A gazebo, marquee or room indoors for guests if it rains
  • Somewhere for us to park nearby

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Wallend questions

Can you cater after a service at Church of St James?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Do you come out to small places like Wallend?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t provide halal meat.

Will there be enough to go round?

We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

Can you work around our timings?

We will be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will fit around changes.

Can we cook it ourselves?

Yes, DIY machine hire is available. We will talk you through it when we quote.

Is a hog roast good for a children’s party?

Most children like pork in a soft roll, with chicken as an alternative.

What comes with the hog roast?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Everything goes into a soft roll, easy to eat standing up. Ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them.

What a hog roast costs

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many people are eating
  • Site access
  • Whether you want china
  • Distance from us

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Where the event is
  • Dietary requirements
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Getting a quote is simple: tell us when, where, how many and what time you’d like to eat. You will get a clear quote listing what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

How the day works

We arrive hours before you want to eat, since slow roasting cannot be rushed. Your guests will smell it long before they see it. For an evening party in Wallend, think about light: daylight lasts until about 9:15pm at midsummer, but by late September it is around 7:00pm. Lights by the food keep the party going.
