Hog roast hire across OX18

Our hog roast hire is fully catered: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. If you’d rather do it yourself, we also hire out the machine. We are frequently asked to cater summer garden parties and Fêtes, fairs and shows, with salads, spit-roast lamb and hog roast rolls.

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

What you’ll pay

Around Carterton

Locally, our bookings take us close to St John the Evangelist, Carterton Primary School and The Golden Eagle pub. Well-known places in the area include Bronze Age Bowl Barrow (2.2 miles south) and Swinford Museum (3.4 miles south-west).

Planning a hog roast in OX18

There are 3 towns and 12 villages and hamlets in OX18, so the setting can be anything from Carterton, Bampton and Burford to a quiet hamlet: level ground, access and agreed timings.

Carterton: PTAs at schools such as Carterton Primary School frequently look for a hot-food stall for fairs and sports days. After a service at St John the Evangelist, the hog roast can be ready at a nearby hall or house. Light matters for a long roast: around Carterton, it stays light until about 9:30pm at midsummer, but by late December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

Catered or do it yourself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

What affects the price in OX18

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Time on site
  • The number of people
  • The date and time of year
  • The journey to the venue

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Useful details:

  • Your menu choices
  • Where the event is
  • Your date and serving time
  • An estimate of numbers

Numbers not final yet? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, then confirm closer to the date. Use our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Find out who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so all you need is the space.

What comes off the roaster

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes to make it a proper meal, especially at a sit-down event.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

For vegans, there’s a vegan burger or sausage in a roll, so nobody misses out.

OX18 questions

How soon do you get booked up?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Send your date and we will check.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.

Do we need our own staff?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

Will people get crackling?

It is: slow roasting crisps the skin and we break it up for everyone.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. You will know our arrival time in advance.

What comes with the hog roast?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
