A hog roast near Birchett's Green

Wedding hog roast in Birchett's Green, slow-roasted on site

Near Birchett's Green, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast is more relaxed and often better value. It still feels like a feast. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why us?

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Served at the time you choose
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

How to compare hog roast caterers

Should I cook it myself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Birchett's Green questions

Which station is closest to Birchett's Green?

The closest is Stonegate station, roughly 2.6 miles away.

Is Birchett's Green close to London?

About 37 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Where does the hog roast go?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. A picture helps.

What happens in bad weather?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is generally fine if the venue is happy.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

Many couples do exactly that, with lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside.

What do you need from us on the day?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We bring everything else.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers usually set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

How it works

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. In Birchett's Green, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:00pm, which means an evening hog roast is usually served in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Preparing for the day

Planning help

Planning for dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Put a dietary question on the invitation

On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We arrive hours before serving, roast through the day and carve on cue.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for any coeliac guests.

What affects the price in Birchett's Green

Your quote depends on:

  • The journey to the venue
  • Time on site
  • Crockery choices
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

The main driver is numbers: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Details that help

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • The venue or postcode
  • Your date and serving time

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the wedding is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Fill in our quote form.
