Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Chatham
What’s the nearest station to Chatham?
Chatham station, about 1.7 miles north of the centre.
How far is Chatham from London?
Roughly 29 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.
What do you need from us on the day?
The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We will bring the rest.
What if it rains?
We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.
Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?
Many couples do exactly that, with alternatives for non-pork eaters.
What if our venue has its own caterer?
Your venue decides: some welcome outside caterers, others do not. We will talk to them about the cooking spot.
Do we need to provide electricity?
Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.
How long does a hog roast take to cook?
It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. You will know our arrival time in advance.
Wedding hog roast in Chatham, slow-roasted on site
Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: it can be held for a while once cooked, so a long speech will not ruin the food. Whether it’s rustic barn receptions and evening food after the first dance, we’ll put together a menu of new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and halloumi skewers and more.
Wedding receptions in and around Chatham frequently use a hotel, a hired venue or a family garden. We will agree where the roaster goes with your venue. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.
Planning for dietary needs
Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:
- Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
- Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
- If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
- Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.
Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.
Working with your venue
Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll confirm what we can provide.
For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.
What comes off the roaster
Spit-roast lamb
Spit-roast lamb cooks slowly like the hog, and it’s carved the same way.
Stuffing and apple sauce
A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing turn a pork roll into a hog roast roll, just as they should.

What affects the price in Chatham
Each price is built from:
- How many people are eating
- Season and day of the week
- Time on site
- Plates or china
When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

DIY versus a catered hog roast
A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.
If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.
