Planning an event in Erriottwood?

Catered or do it yourself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Wedding hog roast in Erriottwood, slow-roasted on site

Couples book a hog roast for the main meal, the evening or both. We roast at the venue through the ceremony and drinks, and our chef carves on cue. Popular choices include spit-roast lamb, new potatoes and crackling, and we are regularly asked to cater intimate weddings and marquee weddings.

Near Erriottwood, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you are organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Planning for dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Some ideas:

  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Your coordinator can keep us posted.

Some couples add lights around the serving area.

How it works

Serving is straightforward: the chef carves and the team serves, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. Golden-hour photos in Erriottwood at midsummer come around 9:15pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 7:00pm in late September.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

What comes off the roaster

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, so they get something hot and satisfying too.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Apple sauce brings sweetness and sharpness go with the pork perfectly. Note that stuffing usually contains gluten.
