Slow-roasted pork in Lynsted

Wedding hog roast near Lynsted

We work with your venue on the cooking spot, timings and access well before the day, so on the day everything is in place. Whether it is the main wedding meal and garden weddings at home, we will put together a menu of salads, spit-roast lamb and rotisserie chicken for your guests.

A wedding in a small place like Lynsted frequently means a field, a barn or a family garden. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed goes into rolls or onto plates.

Crackling

The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and there’s a piece for everyone who wants it.

How the day works

Expect a calm, organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up where we have agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. In Lynsted, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:00pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 3:50pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival

Allergies and dietary needs

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Put a dietary question on the invitation

Running late? A slow roast can wait a little. Just keep us informed.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, as an extra.

Catered or do it yourself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Common questions in Lynsted

Which station is closest to Lynsted?

The closest is Teynham station, roughly 1.6 miles away.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Peter and St Paul: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You will get allergen details for everything.

How far ahead should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we will talk it through when we quote.

What comes with the hog roast?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Can you work around our timings?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will adjust.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed
  • Light near the carving station after dark
  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Next to a wedding barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.
