Wedding hog roast in Grove Green, carved to order

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It’s food and a bit of theatre. Whether it is second-day get-togethers and farm weddings, we’ll put together a menu of halloumi skewers, rotisserie chicken and salads.

For a smaller place like Grove Green, a garden or farm wedding is frequently the dream. We need level ground, cover and a way in. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • Numbers
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Plates or china
  • Distance from us

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Details that help

Here’s what we’ll ask:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the event is
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

Getting a quote is simple: date, place, numbers and serving time. You will get a clear quote listing what’s included. Fill in our quote form.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: grilled halloumi with vegetables.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Looking after everyone

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Grove Green questions

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Luke: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

Is Grove Green close to London?

About 32 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

What do people get?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

How big a hog will we need?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Is a hog roast OK for a sit-down meal?

Of course: carved pork on plates with sides, with our staff serving.

How long does the roast need?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Do you provide china?

Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Planning the cooking spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • Space well clear of tents and trees
  • Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

Popular choices

  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Crackling
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Salads
  • New potatoes
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Roast or jacket potatoes

Catered or do it yourself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with pizza or other evening vans, a hog roast serves a crowd quickly once carving starts. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why us?

  • Planned to your running order
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too

What happens on the day

The roaster is gas-fired, so we don’t need mains power to cook, though a socket nearby is handy for lighting. In Grove Green, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:00pm, which means an evening hog roast is usually served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Let us know about tight access
