Wedding hog roast in Hounsdown, carved to order

We work with your venue on the cooking spot, timings and access, so on the day everything is in place. We serve crackling, halloumi skewers and carved roast pork, and we’re regularly asked to cater garden weddings at home and small, informal weddings.

For a smaller place like Hounsdown, a garden or farm wedding is frequently the dream. We need a level spot and access. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

What the cooking area needs

Most gardens, car parks, yards and fields work with a little planning. Here’s what helps:

  • A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees
  • A short walk from the serving station to the guests
  • Approval from the venue or marquee supplier

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Hounsdown: your questions answered

Can you cater after a service at Colbury Christ Church?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

Do you cater at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

Do you do evening food?

It’s one of our most popular wedding bookings. Hot pork rolls are perfect late in the evening.

Do we need extra food?

With sides, it is a full wedding breakfast; for evening food, rolls are usually enough.

Who serves?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Can we add a second roast?

Lamb and chicken are both available as a second option.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, for confident cooks. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

Outside, always. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What happens on the day

Carving is part of the show: the hog is carved in front of your guests, and the crackling is shared out so everyone gets some. In Hounsdown, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
  4. We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Some couples have a formal meal and a hog roast in the evening; others make the hog roast the main meal. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why us?

  • Planned to your running order
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • An itemised quote

Take a look at how we price and the cost guide.

Should I cook it myself?

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Looking after everyone

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before

We’re on site for much of the day, working quietly in the background.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.
