How our wedding hog roast works in Keycol
Your venue and we agree the cooking spot and timings, so nothing is left to chance. Whether it’s late-night wedding food and post-wedding gatherings, we’ll put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, carved roast pork and halloumi skewers and more.
A wedding in a small place like Keycol often means a field, a barn or a family garden. That’s where a hog roast shines: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Let us know about access and ground. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish before you book.
What comes off the roaster
Crackling
The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and we break it up so everyone gets a piece.
Roast pork
Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and our chef carves it to order.
What a hog roast costs
Things that change the price:
- Site access
- The journey to the venue
- Numbers
- Season and day of the week
Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups usually cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.
Getting an accurate quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:
- Any venue rules
- The date and time of the event
- The address or postcode
- Which meats and sides you’d like
For a quote, send us a few details: the date and serving time, the venue or ME9 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Send us your details through our quote form.
Organising for someone else?
For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.
A hog roast or other catering?
If your venue does its own catering, check whether you can bring in a hog roast. There may be a fee. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.
Why us?
- Choices for people who do not eat pork
- Planned to your running order
- Crackling for everyone who wants it
- Serving and clearing done for you
Read our prices page and the cost guide.
Should I cook it myself?
Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.
The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.
What else we do in Keycol
Before you choose a spot
A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:
- A short walk from the serving station to the guests
- Space well clear of tents and trees
- Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster
If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.
From the roaster
- Crackling
- Rotisserie chicken
- Spit-roast lamb
- Salads
- Roast or jacket potatoes
- New potatoes
- Halloumi skewers (V)
- Vegan option (Ve)
- Stuffing and apple sauce
- Hog roast rolls
What happens on the day
We get there well ahead of service, since slow roasting can’t be rushed. The smell generally brings people over long before we carve. Golden-hour photos in Keycol at midsummer come around 9:15pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.
- Tell us whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
- We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
- We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
- We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
- We carve and serve, then clear away.
Preparing for the day
- Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
- Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
- Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Is crockery included?
We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.
