Wedding hog roast in Maplescombe, slow-roasted on site

We look after guests who do not eat pork: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t available. We are frequently asked to cater weddings in a family garden and intimate weddings, with crackling, carved roast pork and new potatoes.

Rural weddings around Maplescombe have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

The menu, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who don’t eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and it suits fussy eaters.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

Questions from Maplescombe

Which station is closest to Maplescombe?

Eynsford station, about 1.6 miles west of the centre.

Is Maplescombe too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Can you roast in the rain?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Is a hog roast enough for a wedding?

Quantities are based on your guest list, and we’ll confirm it in writing.

Can we add a second roast?

Of course: lamb and pork together give guests a choice.

When do you start roasting?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

What the cooking area needs

Planning the cooking spot is the key. A quick checklist:

  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
  • Lighting for evening service
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

What happens on the day

Expect a calm, organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up where we have agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. For a summer wedding in Maplescombe, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

What a hog roast costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Distance from us
  • The number of people
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Menu choices and extras

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Details that help

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • Rough numbers
  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Your date and serving time
  • Any venue rules

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so it’s easy to compare like for like. Send us your details through our quote form.

A hog roast compared with other options

Some couples have a formal meal and a hog roast in the evening; others have the hog roast as the main event. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Why book with us

  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Served at the time you choose
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • All the equipment comes with us

See our pricing or the cost guide.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

We serve and clear without fuss, so the party carries on around us.

For a sit-down meal, ask for china, as an extra.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
