How our wedding hog roast works in Knatts Valley
Evening wedding food has one job: feed hungry dancers. Rolls with roast pork and crackling are just the thing, and they’re easy to eat with a drink in hand. We are frequently asked to cater evening receptions and relaxed, low-key weddings, serving salads, halloumi skewers and crackling.
Rural weddings around Knatts Valley have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

Common questions in Knatts Valley
Do you cater at venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.
Is Knatts Valley too small for a hog roast?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.
Where will the roaster go at our wedding?
Outside, under its own cover, a safe distance from the marquee. Serving inside is fine where allowed.
What if it rains?
The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.
Do you come to Knatts Valley?
Yes, Knatts Valley is in our area. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will check the date.
What if things run late?
We’ll be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will adjust.
Do we need to provide electricity?
Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.
Do venues allow outside hog roasts?
It depends on the venue. Check with them first, and we’ll work with them on the details.
Should I cook it myself?
Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.
If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.
What happens on the day
On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. In Knatts Valley, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.
- Tell us whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
