Slow-roasted pork in New Hinksey

Wedding hog roast in New Hinksey, carved to order

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: people gather round as the chef carves. It is food and a bit of theatre. For evening food after the first dance and farm weddings, we can cook carved roast pork, rotisserie chicken and crackling and more.

For a smaller place like New Hinksey, a garden or farm wedding is frequently the dream. We need a level spot and access. The hog is roasted on site at your wedding, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in New Hinksey

Can you cater after a service at Church of St John the Evangelist?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

What’s the nearest station to New Hinksey?

The closest is Oxford station, roughly 1.3 miles away.

What about coeliacs?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

What’s included?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

Do you clear up?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll confirm the space with your quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

  • A short walk from the serving station to the guests

Why choose a hog roast in New Hinksey?

Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time. Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups typically cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why us?

  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What a hog roast costs

We work out each quote from:

  • Time on site
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Whether you want china

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Details that help

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • The address or postcode
  • Rough numbers
  • What the outdoor space is like

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we will quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Send us your details through our quote form.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Golden rotisserie chicken can be served in a roll or on a plate.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

Looking after everyone

Some guests will not eat pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed

You will not have to think about the food. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Some couples add lights around the serving area.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. At midsummer, sunset in New Hinksey is about 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 9:00pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Getting ready for the day

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Send final numbers in good time
