Wedding hog roast in Newnham, slow-roasted on site

Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: a cooked roast holds for a while, so the food copes with a delayed running order. Typical bookings include the day after the wedding and farm weddings, serving new potatoes, salads and spit-roast lamb.

There is something special about a country wedding near Newnham, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Timings are planned around your wedding, working back from when you want to eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Working with your venue

If you are a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. At midsummer, sunset in Newnham is about 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Rolls and stuffing generally contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers

Full catering or machine hire?

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Questions from Newnham

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St. Nicholas: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

Which station is closest to Newnham?

Hook station, about 1.2 miles east of the centre.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Can you cater in Newnham?

We do. Send us the address and we’ll check the date.

Will guests be full?

We will plan quantities from your numbers, and the quote lists everything.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Can you do our evening wedding food?

Of course. We’ll time it around your first dance and band.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to:

  • The journey to the venue
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Whether you want china
  • The number of people

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups usually cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What we need to know

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture

When you’re weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. We spell it out in ours. To get yours, send us your details through our quote form.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
