What comes off the roaster
Spit-roast lamb
Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which works well for larger groups.
Rolls and gluten-free rolls
A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.
Wedding hog roast in Newtown, carved to order
A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: people gather round as the chef carves. It is food and a bit of theatre. For blessings and renewals and marquee weddings, we will put together a menu of crackling, new potatoes and salads and more.
For a smaller place like Newtown, a garden or farm wedding is frequently the dream. We need level ground, cover and a way in. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.
Prices and what affects them
Your quote depends on:
- Which meats and sides you choose
- How long the roast and service take
- Plates or china
- How many people are eating
Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.
Details that help
Here’s what we’ll ask:
- Any venue rules
- The venue or postcode
- Dietary requirements
- Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Use our quote form.
How it works
Slow roasting is the whole point: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. In Newtown, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, which means an evening hog roast is generally served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.
- Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
- We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
- The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
- We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
- Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.
Preparing for the day
- Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
- Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
- Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
How to get a price

Planning help
Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together without batches coming off a grill. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.
Why Newtown hosts choose us
- Staff to serve, so you do not have to
- A clear quote with everything listed
- Sides to make it a full meal
- All the equipment comes with us
Read how we price or the cost guide.
Should I cook it myself?
Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.
We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.
Planning for dietary needs
Rolls and stuffing usually contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:
- Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
- Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
- Give final numbers in good time
- Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
We’ll liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.
Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.
Planners, venues and businesses
For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.
Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.
