Full catering or machine hire?
Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.
Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.
Prices and what affects them
Each price is built from:
- Distance from us
- Numbers
- Which meats and sides you choose
- The serving time and how long we’re on site
Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.
What we need to know
We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:
- Allergies we should know about
- Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
- Anything the venue has asked for
- The date and time of the event
For a quote, send us a few details: the date and serving time, the venue or BN8 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Send us your details through our quote form.
How it works
On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. In Ringmer, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, which means an evening hog roast is generally served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.
- We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
- You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
- Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
- The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
- We clear away once everyone has eaten.
Preparing for the day
- Give us final numbers a week or so before
- Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
- Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
If your venue does its own catering, check whether you can bring in a hog roast. There may be a fee. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.
Why book with us
- Serving and clearing done for you
- Sides to make it a full meal
- Carved by our chef in front of your guests
- All the equipment comes with us

Planning for dietary needs
With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:
- Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
- If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
- Note which guests don’t eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
- Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
We serve and clear without fuss, and leave you to celebrate.
Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.
- Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
- Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
- Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
- Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
