Wedding hog roast for Stone

Wedding hog roast in Stone, carved to order

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan option. Halal meat is not available. Popular choices include new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and halloumi skewers, and we’re frequently booked for weddings in a marquee and the day after the wedding.

Rural weddings around Stone have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Working with your venue

Marquee suppliers typically set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.

The menu, dish by dish

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

We can serve in rolls or on plates, with gluten-free rolls on request.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, carved to order at the serving station.

Questions from Stone

Can you roast near the sea around Stone?

Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

Can you cater after a service at St Francis?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

What happens after service?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Can you roast in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will confirm the space with your quote.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

Check with the venue first: some welcome outside caterers, others don’t. We’ll sort the details with them.

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What happens on the day

The roaster cooks outdoors, under a gazebo on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. In Stone, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Getting ready for the day

Planning help

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to other evening food, carving serves plenty of people fast. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head typically falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why book our hog roast in Stone

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Served at the time you choose

Take a look at our prices page and the cost guide.

What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Distance from us
  • How many people are eating
  • Site access
  • The serving time and how long we are on site

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Getting an accurate quote

For a quick, accurate price, send us:

  • The venue or postcode
  • An estimate of numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo

We price every booking individually, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options

We are on site for much of the day, working quietly in the background.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, quoted separately.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
