What a hog roast costs

We work out each quote from:

  • Time on site
  • Travel to Swattenden
  • Menu choices and extras
  • The number of people

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. There’s no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Roughly how many people
  • The venue or postcode
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

We price every booking individually, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Ask us for a quote for your wedding: send us your details through our quote form.

Wedding hog roast in Swattenden, carved to order

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: a cooked roast holds for a while, so a long speech won’t ruin the food. Whether it is anniversary vow renewals and barn and farm weddings, we can cook crackling, halloumi skewers and carved roast pork for your guests.

A wedding in a small place like Swattenden often means a field, a barn or a family garden. That’s where a hog roast shines: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Let us know about access and ground. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish before you book.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a barbecue, a hog roast feeds everyone at once from one roast without batches coming off a grill. Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

Before you choose a spot

Most outdoor spaces can work with a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Space well clear of tents and trees
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A level spot near, but not too near, the marquee

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Swattenden

Is Swattenden close to London?

Roughly 39 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you come out to small places like Swattenden?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What if our venue has its own caterer?

Check with the venue first: rules vary. We’ll sort the details with them.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Will there be enough to go round?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We will confirm the menu in the quote.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

Yes. We serve it on plates with salads and potatoes, with china available, and our staff serve your guests.

How much does a hog roast cost?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we will quote.

Can we have both pork and lamb?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken as a second option.

The process

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. For a summer wedding in Swattenden, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

How to get a price

Planning help

DIY versus a catered hog roast

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We arrive hours before serving, roast through the day and carve on cue.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for any coeliac guests.
