How our wedding hog roast works in Walmer

Couples book a hog roast for the main meal, the evening or both. We roast at the venue through the ceremony and drinks, and our chef carves on cue. Whether it is anniversary vow renewals and the main wedding meal, we can cook salads, rotisserie chicken and carved roast pork and more.

In Walmer, a local ceremony and a marquee reception is a lovely, personal choice. The roaster cooks a safe distance from the marquee. Tell us about access to the field or garden. You’ll know what’s included before you book: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed.

About the food

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: grilled halloumi with vegetables, in a roll or on a plate.

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and we break it up so everyone gets a piece.

Organising for someone else?

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it is worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we will confirm what we can provide.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a cold buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why us?

  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside

Catered or do it yourself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Questions from Walmer

Can you roast near the sea around Walmer?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

What’s the nearest station to Walmer?

Walmer station, about 0.7 miles west of the centre.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

It works well as a relaxed main meal, with alternatives for non-pork eaters.

Can you do gluten-free?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

Do you do evening food?

It’s one of our most popular wedding bookings. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we will adjust.

Can we have both pork and lamb?

Lamb and chicken are both available as a second option.

When should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it is always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

The process

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. Golden-hour photos in Walmer at midsummer come around 9:15pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. Sunset is around 8:45pm in late May and 7:00pm in late September.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

How to prepare

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready

Getting a price

What a hog roast costs

We do not use a fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Plates or china
  • The number of people
  • Site access

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

What we need to know

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Your date and serving time
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Any venue rules

Getting a quote is simple: tell us when, where, how many and what time you’d like to eat. You’ll get a clear quote listing what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, for access and timings.

For a sit-down meal, ask for china, as an extra.
