Clap Hill barbecues: local tips

Clap Hill is about 4 miles south-east of Ashford, in Kent. Events in Clap Hill are part of our patch. Clap Hill is one of 922 places in Kent where we cater. We cater events right across the region, from Clap Hill to Canterbury (14 miles away).

Coming by train? The closest railway station is Ham Street station, roughly 4.1 miles south-west of the centre. Summer fairs and sports days, for a school such as Aldington Primary School, often want a barbecue. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 7 miles of Clap Hill, a lovely setting for an outdoor barbecue. Venues there may restrict open cooking, so ask about their rules first.

We cover events in every part of TN25 and the streets around it. If your venue is just outside Clap Hill, we also cover Aldington (1 mile south-east), Stonestreet Green (1 mile east), Bonnington (1 mile south-west), Aldington Frith (1 mile west) and Postling Green (1 mile south-east). Your questions about a catered barbecue in Clap Hill

Is Clap Hill too small for a barbecue?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Could you cook in Poulton Wood?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you offer halal meat?

No. If guests need halal, arrange that separately.

Is the food cooked safely?

That’s one of the best reasons to have it catered: separate equipment for raw and cooked food, and everything cooked through.

Do you cook the barbecue on site?

Yes, at your event, on a spot we agree with you. The barbecue needs a level spot outdoors, clear of buildings and trees.

Is crockery included?

Plates come as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

Will guests know what’s in each dish?

You will get allergen information for everything we serve, and we can label the vegetarian and vegan options.

Does rain stop the barbecue?

We cook under cover, so rain isn’t a problem for the food. Have a gazebo, marquee or room indoors for eating.

Before you choose a spot

Most outdoor spaces work for a barbecue if a few things are right. A quick checklist:

  • A gazebo, marquee or room indoors as a back-up
  • Access through a gate or passage wide enough for our kit
  • Space for our vehicle nearby

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

How it works

Barbecue food is best straight off the grill, so we cook and serve through the agreed time. Pulled pork and brisket are ready from the start, so nobody waits for the first round. At midsummer, it’s light in Clap Hill until about 9:15pm, which gives a barbecue a long summer evening. By late September, sunset is nearer 7:00pm.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and get the grill hot.
  4. At serving time, the chef grills and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

How we price a catered barbecue

We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • The journey to the venue
  • Season and day of the week
  • Whether you want china

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

Getting an accurate quote

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Roughly how many people
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Your date and serving time

Send us the date, the address or TN25 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Fill in our quote form.

Is a barbecue right for your event?

Instead of asking a friend to man the grill, a catered barbecue means everyone gets to be a guest, and food safety is in professional hands. Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

What you get with us

  • Vegetarian and vegan options as standard
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Cooked on site by our chef
  • Timed around your day

Read our prices page or menu ideas for your barbecue.

What we serve, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Vegetarians get halloumi and vegetable skewers, so they get something hot and satisfying too.

Beef burgers

Beef burgers are quick to grill, so they keep the queue moving.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Keep the meat-free options clearly labelled
  • Mention any guests who avoid beef
  • Check which rolls and sauces contain gluten
  • Request gluten-free rolls

If timings change, tell your contact as early as you can, and we will adjust where we can.

Sides turn a barbecue into a proper meal.

For planners, venues and organisers

Booking for a club or group? A single point of contact keeps things simple, particularly when timings shift.

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.

  • Our chef at the grill, so you don’t have to be
  • Six barbecue meats to choose from
  • Meat-free choices cooked separately
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
