Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Your questions about a catered barbecue in Turnpike Lane

Could you cook in Ducketts Common?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Can you get a barbecue into a London garden in Turnpike Lane?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard usually works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we will advise.

Is a barbecue good for children?

Burgers and sausages are normally the children’s favourites, and a vegan sausage covers anyone who doesn’t eat meat. Let us know numbers for children.

Is barbecued chicken safe?

That’s one of the best reasons to have it catered: raw and cooked food are kept apart, with separate tongs and boards.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

What can we have at a catered barbecue?

Burgers, sausages, chicken skewers, ribs, pulled pork and brisket, plus vegetarian and vegan options. Sides include salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

How many meats should we choose?

You do not need everything. Pick a mix of grilled and slow-cooked meats and we’ll advise on the rest.

Space, access and the venue

Planning the cooking spot is the key. A quick checklist:

  • A clear way in from where we park
  • Space for the barbecue and a serving table
  • Parking near the grill

Turnpike Lane is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

How we price a catered barbecue

The price comes down to:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Distance from us
  • The number of people
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

What you choose to eat matters most: a simple menu costs less than one with brisket and ribs, so the quote shows each choice. Ask us to suggest a menu for your budget.

What we need to know

When you enquire, please mention:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Any venue rules
  • Where the event is
  • Allergies we should know about

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it’s easy to compare like for like. Fill in our quote form.

How to plan a catered barbecue

A barbecue or other catering?

Next to a formal plated meal, a barbecue keeps things informal, and needs no kitchen at the venue. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Why book with us

  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Add a hog roast alongside
  • Burgers, ribs, pulled pork, brisket and more

See our prices page and BBQ menu ideas.

How the day works

On the day, we set up the barbecue on the agreed spot, put the cover up and get it hot. From there, we cook as your guests come up, worked around your serving time. Evening barbecues in Turnpike Lane need a little planning: it is light until about 9:20pm in June but only about 7:05pm in late September. After dark, the serving table needs lighting.

  1. Start with the date, the venue and roughly how many.
  2. We check the space and send a quote with the menu.
  3. We set up under cover before service.
  4. At food time, we cook and serve.
  5. We tidy up and pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange lighting for a late barbecue
  • Tell us which meats you’d like in advance
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
