How our corporate hog roast works in Appledore Heath

At an open day, you need food that serves a lot of people quickly. One roast feeds a crowd, and our team serves and clears. On the menu are salads, halloumi skewers and hog roast rolls, and typical bookings are for summer team parties and customer days.

Rural businesses around Appledore Heath can be a long way from anywhere to buy lunch, so a hog roast lunch is welcome. The hog is roasted on site at your staff event, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you are ready to eat.

Allergies and dietary needs

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Put the allergen list where people can see it
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Keep alternatives clearly labelled
  • Collect dietary needs when you send the invite

If the schedule moves, tell us: we can hold the roast for a short time.

Tell us about branding or theming for open days and we will fit in.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. In Appledore Heath, summer evenings stay light until about 9:15pm, so an after-work hog roast works well in summer. In late September, the light goes at about 7:00pm.

Planning help

Should I cook it myself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Organising for someone else?

For venues and planners, we’re happy to work alongside your team.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

A closer look at the menu

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, carved to order at the serving station, often with mint sauce.

What the cooking area needs

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • Level hardstanding or lawn
  • Your site’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A contact on site

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Appledore Heath questions

Is Appledore Heath close to London?

About 49 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

What’s the nearest station to Appledore Heath?

The closest is Appledore (Kent) station, roughly 1.6 miles away.

How do you work out quantities?

We size the roast to your numbers, so a good estimate matters. We will confirm the menu in the quote.

Do we need our own staff?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Can you feed everyone in a short break?

Tell us the numbers and the time and we will make it work.

Where on site can you cook?

Most car parks and yards are fine, if there’s a level spot away from buildings and vehicles.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

Is a hog roast right for your staff event?

Compared with sandwich platters, a hog roast is hot, fresh and feels like an event. For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.
