Film set catering in Aldrington, slow-roasted on site

Crews can be big, and carving feeds plenty of people quickly. Add sides for a full meal. For shoots on location and wrap parties, we’ll put together a menu of hog roast rolls, a vegan option and rotisserie chicken.

Shoots around Aldrington often use houses, farms and lanes. Tell us about the route to base. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Working with your venue

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, in a roll, with salad on the side.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

We can serve in rolls or on plates, and gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Why choose film set catering in Aldrington?

There are options for non-pork eaters.

Our roaster has been booked for all sorts of events around Aldrington, including:

  • Base catering
  • Historic house shoots
  • Location shoots
  • Milestone days on set

Nearby historic houses include Portslade Manor (1.4 miles north-west) and Preston Manor & Gardens (2.1 miles north-east). Period locations like these typically keep catering well away from the house, so agree the base early.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote depends on:

  • Plates or china
  • The journey to the venue
  • Season and day of the week
  • How easy it is to reach the spot

The main driver is numbers: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

What to tell us

To check availability and the cooking area, we will need:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Rough numbers
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • The venue or postcode

We need a few details to quote: the date and serving time, the venue or BN3 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Send us your details through our quote form.

Questions from Aldrington

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Could you cook in Hove Park?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

What does the production need from you?

Every production is different.

How far ahead should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: use our quote form.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

Do you need power or water?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you have alternatives?

There are chicken, lamb, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal isn’t available.

Can you get to rural locations?

Send the location and access notes and we will plan the journey.

What happens on the day

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. It is worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Late-September shoots near Aldrington lose the light at about 7:05pm, so plan lights for evening service.

  1. Tell us the base location.
  2. We confirm where we set up.
  3. We roast under cover at base.
  4. We serve rolls or plates quickly.
  5. We leave base tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Tips:

  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Collect crew dietary needs from the call sheet
  • Post allergen details at base

We get to base first thing, roasting through the morning.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a barbecue, carving is quicker for big numbers. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

What you get with us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Planned to your running order
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Carved by our chef in front of your crew

See our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.
