Allergies and dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Halal is not offered
  • Collect crew dietary needs from the call sheet
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans

If lunch moves, we hold the roast a little; just let us know.

Lamb or chicken gives the crew a choice.

Ashburnham: your questions answered

How far is Ashburnham from London?

Roughly 46 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Could you cook in Ashburnham Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your shoot for a quote.

What about locations off the beaten track?

Typically, with good directions and access details. Tell us about tracks and ground.

Do you leave the area tidy?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Do you need much space at base?

Usually, if there is a level, open spot for the roaster under cover. We’ll agree it with your location manager.

What should we sort out beforehand?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Is a hog roast right for your shoot?

Compared with a full location caterer, a hog roast is simpler and suits smaller shoots and one-off days. Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

What you get with us

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • All the equipment comes with us

Step by step

We get there well ahead of service, since slow roasting cannot be rushed. The smell normally brings people over long before we carve. Because the roast starts early, and in December Ashburnham is dark by about 3:55pm, so we may set up under lights.

  1. Send us the location, dates and lunch time.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We set up at base and roast through the morning.
  4. We serve when lunch is called.
  5. We clear our spot.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about tight access
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
