Film set catering for Hackney

Film set catering in Hackney, carved to order

Chicken, lamb, halloumi skewers and a vegan option cover most crews, and we provide allergen information for every dish. We serve spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken and halloumi skewers, and we’re frequently booked for extended shoot days and music video days.

In Hackney, unit bases are frequently in car parks or yards. Locations will arrange our position, frequently with council permission. The hog is roasted on site at your shoot, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you are ready to eat.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Halal isn’t offered
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Stuffing usually contains gluten
  • Collect crew dietary needs from the call sheet

If lunch moves, we hold the roast a little.

Ask for gluten-free rolls.

Events we cater in Hackney

It works for wrap parties as well as shoot days.

Here’s what people in Hackney most often book a hog roast for:

  • Farm and estate locations
  • End-of-shoot wraps
  • Crew thank-you days
  • Base catering

Historic houses near Hackney include Sutton House (within half a mile north-west) and Mansion House (2.8 miles south-west). Period locations like these generally keep catering well away from the house, so agree the base early.

  • The deposit, balance and cancellation terms
  • If the price includes VAT
  • Which meats, sides and extras are included

How to compare hog roast caterers

What affects the price in Hackney

Each price is built from:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Crockery choices
  • Site access
  • Distance from us

Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • The address or postcode
  • Your date and serving time

When you are weighing up caterers, ask each one exactly what’s included. Ours lists it clearly. To get yours, send us your details through our quote form.

Step by step

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. Summer shoots near Hackney have light until about 9:20pm, which suits an evening wrap at base.

  1. The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We agree our position at base with the location manager.
  4. When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot at base.

Getting ready for the day

  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day

Hackney questions

Can you do a hog roast in Clapton Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Can you get a hog roast into a London garden in Hackney?

Often, if there’s a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we’ll advise.

Can you roast in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

What’s included?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

Can you cater for vegans on set?

Chicken, lamb, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we will check.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

DIY machine hire is available. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

What the cooking area needs

The right spot for the roaster makes everything easier. Look for:

  • A named contact at base
  • Access agreed with locations
  • A covered eating area

As a London location, Hackney is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Organising for someone else?

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
