Film set catering in Pevensey, slow-roasted on site

Rural and period locations near Pevensey can be miles from anywhere to eat, so hot food at base matters. For crew thank-you days and commercials and music videos, we’ll put together a menu of new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and salads.

For a shoot in a place like Pevensey, tracks and soft ground need checking before the day. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

What affects the price in Pevensey

The price comes down to:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Travel to Pevensey
  • Plates or china
  • Which meats and sides you choose

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

What to tell us

To check the date and the space, we’ll need:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Your menu choices
  • The address or postcode
  • What the outdoor space is like

Every shoot is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your shoot: send us your details through our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Halal is not offered
  • Stuffing typically contains gluten
  • Count crew needing an alternative
  • Label the alternatives clearly

We clear our spot after lunch.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A level spot at base for the roaster
  • Vehicle access to base
  • Shelter for crew

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. Because the roast starts early, and winter daylight in Pevensey ends around 3:55pm.

  1. Production sends us the location and call times.
  2. We confirm access and send a price.
  3. The roast starts early.
  4. We carve fast on the lunch call.
  5. We pack away straight after.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

A hog roast or other catering?

Some productions combine a hog roast with their usual caterer, for a wrap or a milestone. A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Why book with us

  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

Common questions in Pevensey

Do you cater at venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.

Is Pevensey too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do you leave the area tidy?

We pack everything away after service, so you are not left with the mess.

How big a hog will we need?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Do you provide china?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

How do we prepare?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We’ll bring the rest.

How soon do you get booked up?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we will check.

What do people get?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

For planners, venues and organisers

Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will confirm what we can provide.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
