Working with your venue
For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
If you are a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.
Planning a shoot in Shaw
Shaw is about 1 mile north-east of Newbury, in West Berkshire. We set up the roaster at gardens, car parks, yards and venues around Shaw. Shaw is one of 155 places in West Berkshire where we cater. Our bookings stretch from Shaw to Reading (about 15 miles away).
Within reach of Shaw are historic houses such as Shaw House (under half a mile north-west) and Benham Park (2.4 miles west). If you are shooting at a historic house, the roaster will need a base agreed with the property. With the A4 nearby, Shaw is easy for us and the trucks to reach.
For shoots in RG14 and RG18, we just need to know where the roaster can cook and a serving time. That could mean a shoot in a garden on Park Lane, Shaw Road and Kiln Road, wherever there is an outdoor spot for the roaster. Being close to the A4, Shaw is easy for us to reach with the roaster. If your venue is just outside Shaw, we also cover Speenhamland (1 mile west), Donnington (1 mile north-west), Speen (1 mile west), Bagnor (2 miles west) and Stockcross (3 miles west). Further out, we also cater in Burghfield Common (11 miles east), Hungerford (9 miles west), Spencers Wood (15 miles east), Calcot (12 miles east), Lambourn (12 miles north-west) and Burghfield Hill (11 miles east). Shaw is among the bigger towns we cover in West Berkshire, with plenty of venues for shoots.
Other landmarks nearby include Donnington Castle (1.3 miles north-west) and West Berkshire Community Hospital (1 mile east). The countryside around Shaw includes Audrey's Meadow.
- Local schools include Trinity School (within half a mile north-west) and Trinity School (within half a mile north-west)
- Nearby, you will find The Cock Inn (within half a mile north-west)
Shaw questions
Is Shaw close to London?
Roughly 53 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.
Can you do a hog roast in Victoria Park?
Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Check with them first.
What about crew who don’t eat pork?
There are chicken, lamb, vegetarian and vegan options. We do not offer halal meat.
Do you come to Shaw?
Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Shaw and West Berkshire. Tell us the venue and we will quote.
Is crockery included?
We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we will add it to the quote.
Do you need power or water?
Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.
How big a hog will we need?
Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.
What does the production need from you?
Tell us what the production needs, and we will tell you what we can send.

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, a hot, filling option of their own.
Rotisserie chicken
For crew who do not eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children usually like it too.

What a hog roast costs
The price comes down to:
- Whether you want china
- How long the roast and service take
- How easy it is to reach the spot
- The journey to the venue
Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.
