Funeral wake catering in Rowledge, slow-roasted on site
While you’re at the service, the roast cooks quietly, ready for when everyone comes back. We serve without fuss and clear up quietly. Popular choices include halloumi skewers, rotisserie chicken and salads, and we are often booked for church and village hall wakes and remembrance gatherings.
In a small place like Rowledge, a wake might be at home, in a barn or at the village hall. Let us know about access. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, then carved fresh for your guests.
The menu, dish by dish
Rolls and gluten-free rolls
Everything goes into a soft roll, easy to eat standing up. Gluten-free rolls are available on request.
Salads, potatoes and coleslaw
Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Prices and what affects them
We work out each quote from:
- Numbers
- Menu choices and extras
- Time on site
- How easy it is to reach the spot
The main driver is numbers: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.
Getting an accurate quote
To check the date and the space, we’ll need:
- Roughly how many people
- Where the event is
- Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
- Your date and serving time
For a quote, send us a few details: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Fill in our quote form.

Organising for someone else?
Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.
Marquee suppliers normally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.
Planning the wake in Rowledge
If the service runs late, the food waits.
Whatever the occasion in Rowledge, a slow roast goes a long way. We are frequently asked to cater:
- Pub and club wakes
- Gatherings after a cremation
- Remembrance gatherings
- Hall gatherings after a service
Families holding a service at Saint James often gather afterwards at a nearby hall, where the roast can be ready.
What your quote should include
- Exactly what’s included in the price
- Whether travel is included
- How dietary needs are handled
- The space, cover and access they need
Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
If the hall or pub provides food, check whether we can cater there. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

- Fresh carving at the serving station
- Our staff serve and clear
- Sides to make it a full meal

Step by step
It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. In winter, it’s dark in Rowledge by about 4:00pm, so for an afternoon wake, light near the serving area and the door helps. In summer, there is daylight until about 9:20pm.
- You tell us the date, the venue, rough numbers and when people will arrive.
- We confirm availability and send a price.
- The roast cooks while the service is under way.
- We serve when everyone arrives, calmly and without fuss.
- We clear away discreetly.
How to prepare
- Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
- Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
- Measure the narrowest gate or passage
