Slow-roasted pork in Chale

Hog roast for events in Chale, slow-roasted on site

A hog roast fits a village fête perfectly: people follow their noses, and rolls are easy to eat while walking round. For village fêtes and club events, we can cook apple sauce, a vegan burger or sausage and hog roast rolls for your visitors.

At a field event near Chale, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that’s fine. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Tell us if there is a vegetarian or vegan focus
  • Halal isn’t offered
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if you expect coeliac visitors
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten

We get to the pitch early, timed for the gates opening.

A vegan burger or sausage covers vegan visitors.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

For big events, tell us expected numbers, so we can plan. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

Why Chale hosts choose us

Chale questions

Do you come out to small places like Chale?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you roast near the sea around Chale?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

What paperwork do you provide?

Send us your trader requirements, and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Can you come to our fête?

Yes, fêtes are a natural fit. Tell us the date, pitch and how food will be paid for.

When do you start roasting?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll confirm the space with your quote.

For planners, venues and organisers

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

What a hog roast costs

Your quote depends on:

  • Numbers
  • The date and time of year
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Whether you want china

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

What we need to know

Here’s what we will ask:

  • Your menu choices
  • Roughly how many people
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Getting a quote is simple: date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll reply with a clear price and what’s included. Use our quote form.

The process

The roaster is gas-fired, so we do not need mains power to cook, though a socket nearby is handy for lighting. In late May, sunset in Chale is about 8:55pm, while at midsummer it’s about 9:20pm. After dark, the stall needs lighting.

  1. Share the date, site and expected crowds.
  2. We discuss the package or stall options.
  3. We roast on the pitch.
  4. We serve rolls quickly.
  5. We clear up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster

Ask for a quote

Busy weekends book up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Tell us your date and we will check it: send us your details through our quote form.
