Hog roast for events in Down Street, carved to order

For organisers, one reliable hot-food trader makes life easier. We bring everything, roast on the pitch and leave it clean. On the menu are crackling, rotisserie chicken and a vegan burger or sausage, and we are regularly asked to cater club events and car shows and rallies.

At a field event near Down Street, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that is fine. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

About the food

Roast pork

Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and our chef carves it to order.

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Looking after everyone

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Check other traders are not all selling pork
  • Put the menu and allergen information on display
  • Gluten-free rolls can be brought on request
  • Make the stall easy to find

Tell us about ground conditions, especially after rain.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. In late May, sunset in Down Street is about 8:50pm, and midsummer ones until about 9:20pm. Evening festivals need lighting by the stall after that.

  1. You tell us the event, the pitch and the expected crowd.
  2. We check access to the pitch and send a price.
  3. On the day we set up under cover and get the hog on.
  4. We serve to order through the event.
  5. We pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready

Common questions in Down Street

Which station is closest to Down Street?

The closest is Uckfield station, roughly 2.6 miles away.

Is Down Street too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do you clear up?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Can visitors buy their own food?

Both models are possible. We will agree what suits yours.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Can you help with a fundraiser?

We are happy to talk it through.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Tell us your date and we’ll send a price.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with a volunteer-run kitchen, a professional hog roast frees up your helpers. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why book with us

  • Carved by our chef in front of your visitors
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • No surprises: everything in writing

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What affects the price in Down Street

The price comes down to:

  • Distance from us
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Whether you want china
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

The main driver is numbers: bigger groups normally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

What to tell us

Here’s what we’ll ask:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Your menu choices
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
