Slow-roasted pork in Epwell

DIY versus a catered hog roast

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Hog roast for events in Epwell, carved to order

Charity fundraisers in Epwell can use a hog roast to draw people in. Tell us about the event and we will suggest how it could work. Whether it is summer fêtes and club events, we can cook hog roast rolls, halloumi skewers and a vegan burger or sausage and more.

At a field event near Epwell, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that’s fine. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

What the cooking area needs

The right spot for the roaster makes everything easier. Ideally:

  • Room for a queue that doesn’t block paths
  • Your trader requirements
  • Event approval for hot-food traders

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and get on with roasting and serving. In late May, sunset in Epwell is about 9:00pm, while at midsummer it is about 9:30pm. Evening festivals need lighting by the stall after that.

  1. Tell us about the event.
  2. We confirm the pitch and send a price.
  3. We set up early on the pitch.
  4. We serve as visitors arrive.
  5. We pack down and take our waste.

Before we arrive

  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Epwell: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like Epwell?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do we need our own staff?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Ask us for a quote.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is usually fine if the venue is happy.

Do you cover Epwell?

Yes, Epwell is in our area. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will confirm availability.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

What do you need from the organiser?

The roaster runs on gas, so no mains power is needed to cook. A supply is useful for lights.

What a hog roast costs

There’s no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Menu choices and extras
  • The date and time of year
  • Travel to Epwell

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Getting an accurate quote

Next to cold food, hot rolls are welcome whatever the weather. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.
