Planning an event in Furzey Lodge?

For planners, venues and organisers

How our hog roast for events works in Furzey Lodge

How the food is paid for depends on the event: a catered package paid by the organiser, or a stall selling to visitors. Let us know what you have in mind. On the menu are rotisserie chicken, hog roast rolls and crackling, and we’re regularly asked to cater festivals and fundraising events.

For a village fête or field event near Furzey Lodge, we can cook in a field. Tell us about the ground and the way in. You’ll know what’s included before booking: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with cold food stalls, hot rolls are welcome whatever the weather. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why Furzey Lodge hosts choose us

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • Serving and clearing done for you

Do you trade at school fairs around Furzey Lodge?

Yes, if the school is happy for a hog roast on site. Tell us the date and pitch details.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But it’s always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

When do you start roasting?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We do not provide halal meat.

Do we need our own staff?

No need for your own staff: we carve, serve and tidy up.

How much will it be?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Send us the details and we’ll quote.

What happens on the day

Slow roasting is the whole point: the meat cooks gently until it’s tender while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. Summer events in Furzey Lodge have daylight until about 9:25pm at midsummer and about 7:10pm by late September, which helps evening trading. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. Start with the date and numbers.
  2. We agree how food will be paid for.
  3. We arrive and set up under cover.
  4. We serve rolls quickly.
  5. We clear up and go.

How to prepare
