Slow-roasted pork in Old Basing

Hog roast for events near Old Basing

For organisers, one reliable hot-food trader makes life easier. We’re self-contained and leave the pitch tidy. We’re often asked to cater horse and dog shows and vintage rallies, serving rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and a vegan burger or sausage.

Summer fairs around Old Basing are frequently run by volunteers, so a trader who brings everything is a bonus. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

The process

Slow roasting is the whole point: the meat cooks gently until it is tender while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. Late-September events in Old Basing lose the light at about 7:10pm, so plan lighting if you are trading into the evening.

  1. Organisers send us the event details.
  2. We check the pitch and paperwork and quote.
  3. We set up early on the pitch.
  4. We serve as visitors arrive.
  5. We pack down and take our waste.

How to prepare

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Gather dietary requirements early

Should I cook it myself?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What a hog roast costs

The price comes down to:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Numbers
  • The journey to the venue
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

What to tell us

When you get in touch, please mention:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Your date and serving time
  • Dietary requirements

Every event is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Ask us for a quote for your event: send us your details through our quote form.

Planning the cooking spot

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. The ideal spot has:

  • Space for people to queue
  • A level pitch
  • Space away from marquees, stalls and trees

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

What we serve

  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Crackling
  • Coleslaw
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

Old Basing: your questions answered

Is Old Basing close to London?

Roughly 44 miles from the centre of London.

Could you cook in Eastrop Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Can you come to our fête?

We do. Tell us the date, pitch and how food will be paid for.

What happens in bad weather?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

What do people get?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We will bring the rest.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

For event organisers in Old Basing

If you are a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

If you are booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We will fit in with site rules.

A hog roast compared with other options

A hog roast alongside cakes and teas gives visitors a good choice. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why us?

  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
