Hog roast for events in Oliver's Battery, carved to order
Village fêtes around Oliver's Battery suit a hog roast: the smell draws people over, and rolls are easy to eat while walking round. We serve halloumi skewers, rotisserie chicken and hog roast rolls, and we’re regularly asked to cater agricultural and country shows and car shows and rallies.
At a field event near Oliver's Battery, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that’s fine. The carving happens right in front of your visitors, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.
Organising for someone else?
If you’re booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.
Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.
How we price a hog roast for your event
Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:
- Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
- Which meats and sides you choose
- How easy it is to reach the spot
- Numbers
Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.
What to tell us
Here’s what we will ask:
- Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
- What the outdoor space is like
- Anything the venue has asked for
- An estimate of numbers
The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Fill in our quote form.
Is a hog roast right for your event?
Compared with a volunteer-run kitchen, we take the cooking off your volunteers. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head typically falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

How it works
A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. At midsummer, events in Oliver's Battery stay light until about 9:25pm, so evening trading generally finishes in daylight in high summer. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, the pitch needs lighting.
- Organisers send us the event details.
- We confirm the pitch and send a price.
- We set up early on the pitch.
- We carve to order through the day.
- We pack down and take our waste.
Preparing for the day
- Give us a contact number for the day
- Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
- Gather dietary requirements early
