Hog roast for events for Rowledge

Hog roast for events in Rowledge, carved to order

For a school fair, you want food families will queue for. There are options for most visitors. On the menu are rotisserie chicken, crackling and hog roast rolls, and we are regularly asked to cater village fêtes and tournaments and sports days.

At a field event near Rowledge, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that is fine. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed.

An event in Underdown nature reserve means agreeing traders and vehicle routes with the landowner, normally the council. What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Site access
  • How many people are eating
  • Time on site
  • Plates or china

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • The venue or postcode

When you are weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. Ours lists it clearly. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a burger van, a hog roast feels more special. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why us?

  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • An itemised quote
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Check other traders aren’t all selling pork
  • Tell us if there is a vegetarian or vegan focus
  • Show allergens at the stall

We work to your event plan, including when vehicles can move.

Coleslaw goes well with pork rolls.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Access for our vehicle to the pitch
  • Space for people to queue
  • A level pitch with firm ground

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Popular choices

Organising for someone else?

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.

About the food

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty, straight off the hog.

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up where we have agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. Late-September events in Rowledge lose the light at about 7:05pm, so plan lighting if you are trading into the evening.

  1. You tell us the event, the pitch and the expected crowd.
  2. You get a check on the date and pitch, and a quote.
  3. We set up early so the roast is ready when visitors arrive.
  4. We carve and serve through the agreed hours.
  5. Afterwards we clear the pitch and go.

Preparing for the day

  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready

Questions from Rowledge

Can you come to a school fair in Rowledge?

Yes, with the school’s permission. Send us the date and where the roaster would go.

Do you come out to small places like Rowledge?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

When should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

Do you need power or water?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.

Can you come to a PTA fair?

We do. Ask the school about vehicles on site.

What do people get?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

What about visitors who don’t eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

DIY machine hire is available. We’ll confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
